Water for Tulum

Salisbury Rotary Club Visits Tulum

(Library photo) - The Salisbury Rotarians were provided a tour of the local schools and were deeply struck by how little resources the schools had and the physical condition of the classrooms. One student, about 7 years old was asked, if she could have anything in the school what would it be. Her answer was a playground with grass. Pictured here is the school library.

The photo is very typical of the water fountains the students have to drink from. The bottom photo is one of the new dual filtered fountains that have been installed.

The Salisbury Club provided a gift of $1,500 for the first fountain. Funds for two additional fountains were raised through auctions and a Murder Mystery Dinner, appropriately titled, Burritos and Banditos, where members of the Salisbury Club, the Tulum Club and local community members were the actors.

The schools and students also were lacking in technology. The two Salisbury Rotarians provided a school principal with a gently used laptop and the photo is of a Mayan student, who is University bound, receiving an iPad to assist in his studies, compliments of a member of the Salisbury Rotary Club.
